The magic of the ’80s returns in the new trailer for Willow, the sequel series to the film Willow. It is very hard not to make a little joke out of this title repetition, but the fact is that this trailer is fairly charming, and it’s never a bad time to have Warwick Davis as a leading man.
It’s also never a bad time for Joanne Whalley to return to our screens, as anyone who watched Daredevil knows very well.

The 1988 film Willow was about Willow Ufgood (Davis), who had to save a baby from a wicked queen. The series takes place some years later, and Disney is being very vague about what happens in it: “Set in a magical world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls and other mystical creatures flourish, Willow is the story of an unlikely group of heroes who set off on a dangerous quest, facing their inner demons and coming together to save their world.”
From what the trailer suggests, a gaggle of fresh-faced youths come looking for Willow as they need his help. There’s an evil in the world, and Sorsha (Whalley) couldn’t prevent “all this.” There’s magic and brownies and trolls and a journey “beyond the edge of our world” and while everything is very shiny and clean and colorful, it’s also very sweet and appealing and likely to have a happy kissy ending, as one of the brownies says.
Also, Christian Slater is going to be in here somewhere, though he doesn’t appear in the trailer. Deadline reports that his character aids in a quest—and is a friend of Madmartigan (played by Val Kilmer in the original film).
Jonathan Kasdan, who wrote Solo, co-showruns Willow with Wendy Mericle (Arrow). It premieres on Disney+ on November 30th.
